One of the most important elements in the ca. 1764 cellar's is this wide doorway that was used to access a locked storage room. The door, which was built from vertical boards with horizontal bracing, was important because it gave invaluable information on how the wooden elements in the cellar were finished.  After Dr. Susan Buck analyzed a paint sample taken from the door she found that its complete paint history survived.  The information uncovered from the sample was then used to determine how the other wooden elements in the ca. 1764 cellar were finished. Additionally, as shown by the ca. 1764 Cellar Partition Investigation, the door was also important because it provided the architects and architectural historians with an important example of a surviving ca. 1764 cellar door.
