Fortunately, two of the original ca. 1764 windows survived on the east wall of the secure storage room. These windows were not removed during the ca. 1845 renovations because they were found flanking the East Elevation's Colonnade where the Madison-era grade level was preserved. In other locations the grade was lowered during the ca. 1845 exterior renovations, allowing the installation of the larger ca. 1845 windows.
