A similar process was used to virtually restore the South Passage's wainscot back to ca. 1764. Because President Madison had only made substantial alterations to the north elevation, it was possible to reuse the ca. 1812 wainscot layout for the remaining three elevations. For the north elevation, the ca. 1764 doorways were first virtually restored. Next the pieces of wainscot found on the north wall were placed back into their ca. 1764 locations and any missing elements were virtually restored. Finally the wainscot in the model was rendered with the ca. 1764 paint color.
