To reconstruct the paved surface on the kitchen floor, hand-molded, sand-struck bricks that were similar to ca. 1812 bricks found at Montpelier were used. The bricks were laid on their edges similar to the surviving examples and placed in a pattern that matched the angle and alignment of the original bricks.
